How to Stop Anxiety and Overthinking

Anxiety (defined by Word Web dictionary) “is a relatively permanent state of worry and nervousness occurring in a variety of mental disorders, usually accompanied by compulsive behavior or attacks of panic”.

“Anxiousness is a vague unpleasant emotion that is experienced in anticipation of some (usually ill-defined) misfortune”.

There are many “unpleasant” ways to define anxiety but it is simple to remember this; anxiety means worries that are usually accompanied by unfortunate circumstances.

Overthinking usually happens when one isn’t as fulfilled as expected; when a failure occurs but often times, we are blindfolded by the bitter truths of life. We oftentimes get very comfortable with blaming things on what’s not real.

I am of the belief that overthinking is caused by not taking enough action and effort required to see expected results. This often happens:
  • When we give up too soon,
  • When we lose focus,
  • When we are not just ready to make it work,
  • When we don’t believe in what we do,
  • When we are not patient enough to see it come through,
  • When we listen to negative opinions,
  • When we get overwhelmed and over-shadowed by failure.
Now, this is a problem. Like any other challenge in existence, there are solutions and as such, is the reason for publishing this article.

How do you stop anxiety and overthinking?. Whether it is in your place of work, with your spouse, or over your kids, below are ways to stop anxiety and over-thinking problems.

1. Be Dogged in Action

Determination, strong-willed, strong-minded, steadfast, and persistence are all synonyms of “doggedness”.

It means that when you start up a business that no one else but you believe in, you have to keep pushing and growing it until it fulfills and materializes the beautiful multi-million dollar enterprise picture you’ve always had in your head. Keep doing what needs to be done until you achieve your desired goal.

2. Indulge in Positive Distractions

When you feel saturated with trying and trying without getting “quick results”, try to take a brief leisure break.

Do whatever it is that sparks you up, do fun things, go on a happy date or something. Just distract yourself from being worried and make sure it brings you good results.

3. Believe and have Faith

If you don’t believe in your dreams and in yourself, then there’s no need fighting for a course in the first place. You have to believe and have faith in what you’re doing for it to work.

4. Don’t Listen to the Negative Voice

A negative voice can be on the lips of people around you or even in your own head, they keep judging, criticizing, comparing, and discouraging you from moving forward.

Well, when you listen to these negative voices, you begin to believe in their theories and there you create room for anxiety and overthinking.

5. Work with Facts

In order for you to avoid the negative voices, you have to work with facts. Start by listening to famous successful people around the world, and particularly in your niche area and study them.

I bet you one quick fact you’ll hear them say will point at “consistency, persistence, faith, and hard work”.

Try to filter and separate facts from myth and fear, then you’ll be a step closer to success and there’ll be nothing like anxiety and overthinking in you.

6. Have a Game Plan

Without proper planning, you will find yourself running in circles, burning time, achieving nothing and oh! Your best friends will definitely be anxiety and overthinking.

7. Focus on the Positive

Now that you have a proper business plan and have put in place strategies on how to execute them, all you need to do is focus on your target.

Sometimes, getting a role model helps you to focus on your mission, other times, having your eyes fixed on a successful role model gets you distracted and discouraged.

It is all in the head, you have to focus on the right thing, but if you’re not too strong to handle the latter, then focus on something else, something more encouraging. This time, try having pictures of your dream Business Empire, mansion, or car on strategic areas of your walls.

No matter what you do, don’t think too much and don’t get too anxious over anything because life is too short to worry about what you are not sure of, just do your best, be happy and let life flow.
