How to determine normal skin type

Normal skin type is characterized by the following; 

  • The skin is mostly normal, free from too much shine (oily areas), 
  • The skin does not suffer from much dryness, 
  • There's little or no imperfections, 
  • Normal skin types are beautifully characterized by its radiance and tender texture, 
  • There is no severe sensitivity on the skin in general, 
  • The pore size is rarely visible and mostly smooth. 
  • It is not characterized by the menace of uneven skin tone, 
  • Normal skin type in rare cases exhibits few lines and wrinkles, 

You can determine if you have a normal skin by answering the following questions; 

1. Is your face/ skin very oily in nature? 

2. Is your skin very dry in nature? 

3. Do you often or mostly suffer breakouts on your face? 

4. Is your face/ skin dull and have dark patches? 

5. Are your pores very visible? 

6. Do you have blackheads on your face? 

7. How often does your skin switch to other skin types? 

If you answer 70% “NO” to the questions above, then congratulations you have a normal skin type. 

How to determine Oily Skin Type 

The oily type of skin is the most dreaded type of skin as it messes up your look by ruining your makeup and natural skin oils causing all manner of skin issues like painful pimples, skin pigmentation and so on but every skin type has its own care routine and treatments to balance its nature with the type of beauty situation you like.

Oily skin type is characterized by the following; 

  • The skin has no dry areas, 
  • There is a lot of shine/ oily areas especially on the T-zone areas of the face (around the forehead, nose, chin or cheeks) 
  • The oily skin type is mostly characterized by very visible blackheads and sometimes painful pimples, 
  • The pore size is large and visible, 

You can determine if you have an oily skin type by answering the following questions; 

1. Do you have visible blackheads especially around the T-zone areas of your face? 

2. Do you leave home in the morning and return with a spoons-full quantity of oil on your face? 

3. Do you have painful pimples on your face and neck region? 

4. Do you have large pores? 

5. Do you have visible blemishes that have refused to go away?

How to determine Dry Skin Type 

Dry skin type is cool but also comes with its challenges, the type most people with this skin type are not comfortable with. Excessive dryness of the skin can lead to wrinkling of the skin especially the face. Like other types, its got its beauty tips and tricks to help balance its situation.

Dry skin type is characterized by the following; 

  • Medium to huge visible lines and wrinkles, 
  • It may have red rough patches, 
  • The dry skin type is mostly known for dull and rough complexion, 
  • For dry skin types, the pore is very tight and invisible, 
  • It's mostly itchy and scaly. 

You can determine if you have a dry type of skin by answering the following questions;

1. Do you notice dryness that makes you itch? 

2. Does your skin sometimes scale off? 

3. Do you notice some red or otherwise dark patches? 

4. Do you tight and invisible pores? 

5. Is your skin dull in complexion? 

6. Have you observed any wrinkling on your skin especially your face?

How to determine the Combination Skin Type 

The combination skin type can be very challenging and tough to maintain but again there are ways to go about this type of skin.

The combination type of skin is characterized by the following;

  • Visible breakouts on the skin, neck and chest region, 
  • Visible open pores on the face. 

You can determine if you have a combination type of skin by answering the following questions; 

1. Do you have some areas that produce thick oily shine? 

2. are some part of your skin very dry, 

3. Do you have dark patches on your skin? 

4. Do you have breakouts, blackheads, and/ or painful pimples in some areas of your skin?

How to determine Sensitive Skin Type 

In my opinion, everyone has sensitive skin especially when you don’t apply proper and natural care to your skin.

The sensitive type of skin is characterized by the following; 

  • It may appear as redness, 
  • It may be itching and scaling off, 
  • It may be covered with wrinkles, 
  • It may dark patches of any color (dark green, red, black, etc), 
  • Some part may be swollen and painful, 
  • It may be burning, 
  • The skin may be very dry and tight, 
  • The skin may also be very oily with all manner of breakouts. 

With sensitive skin type, not much can be stated as the remote cause, it can be; 


- A reaction to some beauty products, 

- A reaction to a particular or some type of ingredient contained in a or any beauty product, 

- A reaction to the water you drink and use on your body, 

- A health-related issue, which is why you should always consult with your doctor on any confusing health challenge affecting you, 

- As a result of stress, your lifestyle, the type of food you eat,

- A reaction to some medication, 

- A reaction to sunburn and so many other factors. 

But whatever it is, if you don’t like it, just identify the problem and apply any of the millions of solutions out there because there is no problem out there without a solution. You only need to look more closely.
